My husband likes to come up with articles, too. He thought it would be fun to do a series on mamas in movies and tv shows. The idea came to us the other night after we watched Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and he told me I reminded him of Cate Blanchett’s character, Jane Winslett-Richardson. Thus, I present to you our first installment of Mamas on Screen.

(Literally my attitude during my whole pregnancy)

First of all, if you’ve never seen the The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou I suggest you go watch it immediately. It’s delightful film with an amazing cast. While your at it, check out Wes Anderson’s other films as well.

In The Life Aquatic Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett plays the bold journalist and mother, Jane Winslett-Richardson.

  1. She’s a journalist, a single mom and an all-around badass: I wouldn’t call myself a journalist but I do love to write and document, so maybe. I’d also like to consider myself a badass BUT the real MVP goes to all the single mama’s out there who are doing their thing, baby-in-tow… seriously, I don’t know how you do it but you do and I will forever praise you.
  2. She reads books out loud to her baby in the womb: I did this all time, not only with books but with everything. To me, it was a way for him to familiarize himself with my voice (or many weird accents that I do when no one is around). It became my thing… and then Adam started doing it, too, except in a British accent, so there’s that.
  3. She tries to break her habit of cursing/using swear words before the baby is born: I wouldn’t consider myself to have a sailors mouth but I do curse. And I do it more than I would like to admit, even still. I tried so hard to break that habit before Leo was born and I cut back a lot. I’m still working on it though.
  4. She’s a dedicated professional: Shoutout to all the mama’s who work their buns off for their families! I’m talking about you SAHM’s, too! Every single roll a mama plays is so important! I don’t care if you stay at home, work from home, work at a fast food joint, are a nurse, a chiropractor, a massage therapist, a doula, a lawyer, a bbq joint owner… whatever you do is important and your little gal or guy will grow up knowing that you provided for them and that you are the coolest mama in all the land.
